The athletic program at Santa Margarita Catholic High School seeks to provide an experience of Christian competition that will enable students to develop athletic skills and personal qualities. We believe that through athletics, students have the opportunity to learn the values of good sportsmanship, self discipline, loyalty, leadership, and friendship.
At SMCHS, academics and athletics go hand in hand. A student must carry a 2.0 grade point average in order to participate on an athletic team. As part of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), our boys and girls sport teams are members of the Trinity League. Students of all grade levels are eligible to compete.
SMCHS teams have won 56 CIF championships, 73 individual or relay CIF Championships, 190 league championships and 8 state championships - more than any other school in Southern California since Santa Margarita opened in 1987. 47 SMCHS athletes have earned the title of CIF Player of the Year. Since SMCHS opened, the Eagles have competed in the Olympic League (1988-1990), Angelus League (1990-1992), Sea View League (1992-1999), Serra League (1999-2006), and the Trinity League (2005-Present).
