TUITION ASSISTANCE & SCHOLARSHIPS
At Santa Margarita Catholic High School, it is our desire that every student have the opportunity to receive a well-rounded Catholic education. With the rising cost of education, we are committed to helping families provide a Santa Margarita education for their student(s).
Santa Margarita Catholic High School offers awards in the form of tuition assistance and scholarships – these are awards that do not have to be repaid.
Financial assistance awards are based on financial need. Additionally, privately-funded scholarships are awarded to students based on need, academic excellence, leadership, service, talent and other criteria. Financial assistance combined with privately funded scholarships can provide up to 50% of the cost of tuition at SMCHS. Please see below for specific application criteria and information.
Applications for Tuition Assistance for the 2017-18 school year are now available. Please click here for the application.
New Families can start the Tuition Assistance process now, but must be accepted by SMCHS before they will hear about any potential assistance.
Returning Families must reapply for financial assistance each year.
The priority deadline for applying for Tuition Assistance for the 2017-18 school year is February 10th, 2017
Completed applications, including 2016 W2s and/or 1099s as well as a 2016* tax returns, received by this date will be reviewed first and applicants will be notified of their award status by March 3rd, 2017.
Applicants who receive an award and are notified by March 3rd of the award, but who have not registered by March 24th, will forfeit their award.
Applications completed after the priority date of February 10th, 2017 will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis as long as funds are still available. Awards granted will not be sent out until the student has registered for the 2017-18 school year.
*We encourage you to file your 2016 tax return as soon as you can. We will only look at the 2015 if you are filing an extension and will still need the 2016 once they are filed.

APPLYING FOR TUITION ASSISTANCE:
In order to be eligible for tuition assistance applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Complete FACTS Application Process
- Complete the FACTS application
- Provide 2016 tax information as stated on FACTS application
- Payment - $30 processing fee due at time of application; payable to FACTS
IMPORTANT: The FACTS application can take up to two weeks to process after receipt of your application. Incomplete applications will be delayed in processing. Submit all of the required information to FACTS.
Please DO NOT return information directly to SMCHS. Upon receipt of your application, FACTS will contact you directly confirming receipt. Should any information be missing or incomplete, you will be advised by FACTS. If you have already completed a FACTS application for Tuition Assistance you do NOT need to complete a second FACTS application to apply for scholarships.
2. Be a currently enrolled SMCHS student.
3. Incoming freshman must have an active admissions application on file.
4. Demonstrate a need as determined by FACTS and the SMCHS committee.
5. Be on non-probationary status and maintain a 2.0 GPA

APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS:
It is recommended that the students take time and diligence when completing their applications. Their responses should reflect the history and criteria of what the scholarship represents. Many of the applications are forwarded to committees and donors for review.
We ask that students apply to a maximum of two scholarships. Students may be awarded one scholarship only.
Many of the scholarships require the FACTS application. If you have already completed a FACTS application for Financial Assistance for the 2017-2018 school year, you do NOT need to complete a second FACTS application.
