Mr. John Remmell
South Orange County Model UN XIX (SOCOMUN XIX)
Saturday, September 25, 2010 (8:30am - 4:30pm)

What is SOCOMUN?
We like to call SOCOMUN a "learning conference". Delegates need little to no preparation for the conference. The purpose is to introduce Freshmen and other novice delegates to the MUN experience in a relaxed environment.It is designed for student delegates who have absolutely no idea what MUN is, but want to find out. We now also offer "advanced" committee for students that do have MUN experience. At SOCOMUN, delegates will simulate the General Assembly or different specialized agencies of the United Nations. Listed below are the committees and topics we will be simulating. As you research your topics remember that you are not researching the problem or issue within your country. Rather, you are researching the problem or issue worldwide. You will then be representing your country at a simulated UN meeting to discuss this global issue. Please find the invitation letter and the invitation form below.

Definitions:
Freshman = 9th graders
NOT Freshman = 10th, 11th or 12th grader
Advanced = one year or more of MUN experience
Please do not place older, novice delegates in Freshman committees!

Computer Use: The Borchard Library will be open and delegates are welcome to use the computers and printer in the Borchard Library to type and print out resolutions. Students may also make use of the copy machines in the Borchard Library as well.

USB Flash Drives: All delegates are encouraged to bring a USB flash drive with them to the conference. These will be used to save resolutions as computer files and then project them digitally.
