Safe Homes
All parents share a common hope for the safety, good health and well-being of our children. We encourage all SMCHS parents to actively support the Safe Home pledge. The Safe Home pledge affirms the importance of providing a safe and healthy environment for the social gathering of young people, and it serves to encourage parents to communicate with each other about youth parties. It is not intended as a legal document. The Safe Home Pledge is, in essence, a commitment on the part of the parents to the following:
- Provide – active chaperones who remain informed of what is occurring throughout the event.
- Ensure – students do not have access to, nor engage in, smoking, drinking or drug use.
- Understand – you remain responsible for adequate supervision when providing and/or allowing use of limousine services and/or hotel accommodations used in conjunction with SMCHS events.
- Acknowledge – hosts who allow underage drinking on their property and/or supply alcohol consumed by minors are in violation of California State, county and city laws. California Business & Professions Code 25658.2. Conviction can include monetary penalties and jail time as well as exposure to private civil causes of action.
“I pledge that events for Santa Margarita Catholic High School students in my home will be actively chaperoned and free of underage use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco (including vape/e-cigarettes).”
Please read and discuss the Safe Home Pledge with your student. You are encouraged to communicate with parents about social events that your child may be attending. SMCHS recognizes that is it not possible to guarantee that all social gatherings of SMCHS students will be free from the use of alcohol, illegal drugs and tobacco products (including vape/e-cigarettes). It is the objective from the Safe Home Pledge not to obtain guarantees, but to encourage parents to make reasonable efforts to remain apprised of social gatherings and other out of school activities that may use alcohol, illegal drugs and tobacco products.
