| A World Class Program since the school began, a vital component of the SMCHS curriculum is the Performing Arts Program. Along with the distinction of being one of the Department of Education's Blue Ribbon Schools with special recognition for excellence in the arts, regional, national and international awards have been received as well. Our program has also received a special commendation from the National Endowment for the Arts. Aspiring performing artists enroll at SMCHS because of their talent, dedication and discipline. They find a seasoned program and renowned faculty that offers intense training at the Honors, AP and IB levels. Training is not limited to the classroom, however. Each discipline has a full schedule of performances and competitions, creating opportunities for students to develop their confidence, skill and passion to affect audiences. Our student performances are showcased at numerous venues for the arts not only within Orange County, but at the state, local and international level as well. Artistic training is offered in the following disciplines and programs: Dance, Drama, Orchestra, Choral and Instrumental Music. At SMCHS, our program is structured with a seven class schedule with six periods alternating each day. This schedule was designed to fully accommodate those wishing to pursue their artistic endeavors within the class day. In addition to classroom training, serious students of the arts are encouraged to develop their performance skills and technique through participation in our co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Co-curricular activities include Band, Choir, Dance Team, Handbells, and Orchestra. Our extracurricular activities include Color Guard, Drama Productions and Pep Squad. |
