LOAVES and FISHES
This year each freshman Religion class will be assigned to two class visits to Loaves and Fishes, one in the first semester and one in the second semester. This freshman service program provides new students a structured introduction to the Catholic faith, as a tradition committed to social justice. Freshman students who elect to do their service by going to Loaves and Fishes with their class will participate in an orientation process, as well as the actual event. Permission slips and a materials fee of $20 will be required.  Transportation to and from the event will be provided by a parent or guardian, not by the school.
  • Loaves & Fishes is a Saturday only soup-kitchen operating on the grounds of St. Joseph's school in Santa Ana. Students help set up, supervise games and crafts, serve food and assist in the clean-up.
Students who participate in this form of service will have fulfilled all of the required 15 hours of direct service. In addition to 15 direct service hours, Freshman students  must complete 5 hours of indirect service sometime during their Freshman year. In conclusion, by the completion of their Freshman year, students must have completed 20 hours of service - 15 direct hours and 5 indirect hours. Students can do 20 hours of direct service to complete the required number of hours each year.
