Coach Jerry DeBusk

Coach Jerry DeBusk enters his 20th season as the head coach at SMCHS. During this time his teams have enjoyed great success, winning 450 games and losing only 122. Prior to being at Santa Margarita, Coach DeBusk was the Varsity Coach at Newport Harbor High School for 12 years, giving him an overall record of 623 wins and 240 loses.

Under Coach DeBusk Santa Margarita has won 2 state titles, in 1998, and again in 2008. In addition, his teams have won 5 CIF titles, were runners up 3 times, and advanced to the CIF semi-finals 12 times.

Coaching has always been a passion and a work of love for Coach DeBusk. He attributes his longevity to the following: great players, a supportive administration, supportive parents and an outstanding staff.

Besides coaching, he enjoys spending time with his family and traveling. He lists his hobbies as horse racing and following the many college players he has coached. This year will provide him the chance to follow his first NBA player - Klay Thompson.

Coach Brian Carmer

Coach Carmer enters his seventeenth season at SMCHS and eighteenth season overall coaching high school basketball.  During his ten years as a lower level head coach, Coach Carmer compiled a 212-49 record. As the Varsity Associate Head Coach over the last seven years Coach Carmer has been part of four CIF Finals appearances, including back-to-back CIF Championships in 2004 & 2005.  Coach Carmer resides with his wife Amy and two sons, Jake (12) and Mitch (10), in Trabuco Canyon.  In his free time Coach Carmer enjoys spending time with his family and watching college basketball.

 

Coach Carmer teaches U.S. History at SMCHS.  He attended Cal State Fullerton, receiving a BA in History, earned his Teaching Credential from Chapman University and recently completed his Master’s Degree in Coaching & Athletic Administration at Concordia University.







Coach Aaron Maldonaldo

Coach Maldonado enters his 14th season at SMCHS. Coach Maldonado returns to coach the Freshmen Blue team after 4 years as a Varsity Assistant.  Originally hired as the Freshmen Gold Head Coach for the 96-97 season he later helmed the Sophomore and Freshmen Blue teams. He compiled a cumulative record of 144-42 which included several tournament championships and 4 league titles. Coach Maldonado is a 1994 graduate of SMCHS and was a contributor to the program's first CIF Championship team that same year. He is the lower level basketball coordinator here at SMCHS as well as the head coach for the RSM Basketball club team. When he has free time he enjoys: golfing, playing basketball and spending time with friends and family.






Coach Blake Oldfield

Coach Oldfield enters his fourth year as a varsity assistant and his twelfth season overall at SMCHS. He graduated from SMCHS in 1999 and was a member of the 1998-1999 Sea View League Championship team. Coach Oldfield resides with his wife Angela and son Graham in Rancho Santa Margarita. In his spare time he enjoys watching college basketball, reading, playing golf, and spending time with his family and friends. 

Coach Oldfield, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, is the Assessment Manager for the Auxiliary Study Program at SMCHS. Along with his duties at SMCHS, he is the Testing Coordinator at Michael Elliott and Associates.






Coach Anthony Susnjara

Coach Susnjara enters his second season at Santa Margarita, where his primary focus is post player development at all levels. Prior to coming to Santa Margarita, Coach Susnjara played college basketball at Coastal Carolina University as well as playing professionally overseas for six years.

Coach Susnjara, who holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education. In his free time Coach Susnjara enjoys following cricket and rugby league as well as spending time with his wife Jennifer and keeping in touch with friends and family in Australia.


Coach Beaty

Coach Beaty enters his third season coaching at SMCHS, coaching both the Sophomore and JV teams.  He played collegiate basketball at Simpson University and graduated with a BA in Social Science in 2004.Coach Beaty has a Master's Degree in Kinesiology and is finishing his teaching credential in February.He and his wife Sayar are expecting their first child in November.  In his free time he enjoys surfing with friends or watching a good film. 




Coach Shusaku Isagawa

Coach Isagawa enters his third season at SMCHS. Coach 'Shu', coached the SM sophomore team last season and will continue to coach the Soph team this season. In addition to coaching at Santa Margarita, Coach Shu also runs the JSK Basketball club.

 Coach Shu is currently attending his last two semesters at CSULB where he will be finishing his degree in Kinesiology with a sports psychology emphasis. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball, watching sports, and spending time with friends and family.


 

Coach Brian Anderson

Coach Anderson enters his third season at SMCHS and eighth season overall coaching high school basketball.

He works as the Sales Manager at OLYMPIQUE Expert Building Care in Lake Forest.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, as well as playing and watching sports.
