SM Robotics Advances to State Championship After Standout Season

SM Robotics Advances to State Championship After Standout Season

The Orange County and Port Hueneme District Competitions are among the most competitive events in the FIRST Robotics Competition, bringing together top teams in a high-energy battle of innovation and engineering excellence. This season, Santa Margarita Catholic High School Robotics rose to the challenge with determination, skill, and teamwork.

SMCHS proudly fields two teams:
• Varsity – Team 5805, SMbly Required
• Freshmen Academy – Team 3020, SMbld

Both teams delivered outstanding performances. At the Orange County District Competition, the Varsity team secured an impressive 3rd-place finish, while the Freshmen Academy team demonstrated rapid growth, resilience and competitive spirit beyond their years.

At the Port Hueneme District Competition, Team 5805 achieved a remarkable Finalist (2nd place) finish, joining a top-seeded alliance and advancing through intense playoff rounds—marking one of the program’s strongest seasons in recent years. Team 3020 continued to build momentum, gaining confidence and experience with every match.

With these results, Varsity qualified for the California Southern State Championship at the Anaheim Convention Center, competing against 60 of the region’s best teams. While the team did not advance to the final playoff round, its performance showcased growth and the program's strength.

Behind these achievements are months of dedication, late nights, and collaboration among students, mentors, families, and sponsors.

Summing up the season, Alexander Klatt, Robotics Teacher and Robotics Team Manager, stated,

“I’m beyond proud of every single member of our robotics team. Their commitment to the big picture, their patience in crafting every small detail, and their passion to win are simply remarkable. As I always scream on the field, Let's soar high, Eagles!"

The success of SM Robotics reflects months of preparation and the dedication of students, mentors and supporters. With continued growth and momentum, the program looks ahead to even greater achievements in the seasons to come.
