SM MUN Takes on Europe: Warsaw and Prague

SM MUN Takes on Europe: Warsaw and Prague

This January, students from the Santa Margarita Catholic High School Model United Nations program embarked on an unforgettable educational journey to Central Europe, combining rigorous academic competition with deep cultural immersion. Our delegation traveled to Warsaw, Poland, and Prague, Czechia, representing SMCHS on the international stage at PRAMUN (Prague Model United Nations).

The trip began in Warsaw, where students explored Poland’s powerful history and resilience. Highlights included visits to the Warsaw Uprising Museum, the historic Old Town, and mass at St. John’s Archcathedral, offering students firsthand insight into the themes of sovereignty, resistance, and national identity, concepts they frequently debate in Model United Nations. These experiences provided meaningful context for understanding how history shapes modern political institutions and international relations.

From Warsaw, the group traveled to Prague, a city often described as an open-air museum. Before conference sessions began, students toured iconic landmarks such as Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and the historic city center. These moments allowed students to appreciate the cultural and geographic heart of Central Europe while preparing for the intellectual challenge ahead.

At PRAMUN, SMCHS students proudly represented Brazil across multiple committees. Throughout the conference, our delegation demonstrated exceptional preparation, diplomacy, and confidence. Notably, seven student-written resolutions were debated on the General Assembly floor, a remarkable achievement at an international conference. Students engaged with peers from across Europe and beyond, sharpening their public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking skills in a truly global environment.

Beyond awards and resolutions, the trip fostered independence, collaboration, and global awareness. Students navigated international travel, engaged respectfully with different cultures, and represented SMCHS with professionalism and integrity at every step. These are experiences that cannot be replicated in a classroom, and ones that leave a lasting impact.
