SMCHS Baseball Competing in Prestigious Invitational

SMCHS Baseball Competing in Prestigious Invitational

Santa Margarita Catholic High School will compete in the tenth annual National High School Invitational (NHSI) for the first time in the baseball program’s history. SMCHS is one of 16 of the nation’s top high school teams playing in the single-elimination championship tournament. Each participating team is guaranteed to play four games.

Players who have competed in NHSI have gone on to illustrious careers in professional baseball, including 2016 NL MVP Cody Bellinger, 2021 World Series champion Mac Fried, and three MLB Drafts (2020-2022) participating in the event.

“Being invited to the NHSI is a prestigious honor for our program. It shows how far we have come as a program over the course of the past five years. The past and current student-athletes have put in a tremendous amount of hard work to earn this invitation. As the coach and alumnus of Santa Margarita, I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes, parents, administration and community support in assisting us in achieving this honor," said Chris Malec '01, SMCHS Head Baseball Coach.

Only three other California high schools will participate in the event in North Carolina from March 29 to April 1.
