Talon Theatre Cast and Crew Visit Homeboy Industries, Deepening the Message of The Outsiders

Members of the Talon Theatre cast and crew recently had the opportunity to visit Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, gaining firsthand insight into an organization whose mission closely aligns with the heart of The Outsiders. The visit offered students a powerful, real-world connection to the themes they explore onstage: brotherhood, belonging and the transformative power of compassion.

Founded by Father Greg Boyle, Homeboy Industries is the largest gang-intervention, rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. Rooted in dignity and kinship, Homeboy provides job training, education, mental health services and a supportive community for formerly gang-involved and incarcerated individuals. During the visit, students learned how the organization helps people heal, rebuild their lives and discover their inherent worth beyond labels or past circumstances.

For the cast and crew, the experience brought the story of The Outsiders into sharper focus. The organization’s work mirrors the play’s central truth: while people are shaped by their environments, they are not defined by them. Like the characters they portray, those served by Homeboy seek connection, understanding and a chance to be seen for who they truly are.

In addition to the visit, Talon Theatre is honored to donate a portion of ticket-sale proceeds to Homeboy Industries, extending the message of The Outsiders beyond the stage. Through this partnership, students are choosing empathy over division and hope over judgment - embracing the belief that community, compassion, and second chances can change lives.
