Coach Richard Blanc Awarded National Coach of the Year by NFHS

Congratulations to Richard Blanc for winning the 2021-2022 National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) National Coach of the Year. Richard Blanc and his brother, Ron Blanc have co-coached Santa Margarita's outstanding boys and girls swimming and diving teams since 1996.

The boys program has won 14 of the past 22 league championships and won back-to-back California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Division 1 Championships in 2021 and 2022. The boys team earned the second-highest point total ever recorded in the 2022 CIF state championship. The Blanc brothers led the girls program to four CIF state titles and 22 consecutive league titles. Rich Blanc teaches economics at SMCHS and coached girls water polo for 17 years. He received the 2014 National High School Association Swimming Coach of the Year, the 2022 CIF Southern Section Swim Coach of the Year and is a two-time Orange County Swim Coach of the Year.

The NFHS has recognized coaches in the top girls and boys sports for over four decades. The federation selected 23 high school coaches nationwide for the 2021-2022 school year. Click here to read the full NFHS article.
