Joseph Nava to Lead Eagles Wrestling Program

Santa Margarita Catholic High School is proud to announce the appointment of Joseph Nava as the new Head Coach of the Eagles Wrestling Program. A dedicated educator and decorated competitor, Coach Nava brings a wealth of experience, passion and leadership to the position, having previously served as an assistant coach with the program.

A graduate of Mission Viejo High School, Coach Nava’s wrestling journey includes standout accomplishments at every level. He was a CIF Finalist, 3x Coast View Conference Finalist, OCWA League Wrestler of the Year, and Most Valuable Player for the Diablos. In freestyle competition, Nava earned distinction as a California State Freestyle Finalist, showcasing his diverse skill set and technical ability.

After high school, Nava continued his career at Santa Ana College and California Baptist University, where he earned recognition as a 3C2A Collegiate All-American and State Finalist. He was also named Most Valuable Player at Santa Ana College, underlining his leadership and competitive drive at the collegiate level.

Coach Nava holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in Sports and Performance and is currently completing a Master of Social Work (MSW) program at CBU. As a Social Work Intern, he is pursuing licensure to further serve and support student-athletes on and off the mat.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Nava into this new leadership role,” said Donald Evans, Athletic Director at SMCHS. “His deep knowledge of the sport, his strong connection to our student-athletes, and his commitment to developing the whole person make him an ideal fit to lead our wrestling program into its next chapter.”
