Felicity Nguyen '27 of SMCHS collected another premiere award this week. After crafting a magnificent junior season, Nguyen was selected as the Gatorade California Girls Soccer Player of the Year for 2025-2026.
Nguyen, a rising senior in the class of 2027, displayed her talent and skill on the soccer pitch as she and the Eagles posted a 19-2-5 overall record and captured the Trinity League title. Nguyen was also pivotal in aiding SMCHS to their second-consecutive CIF Southern Section (CIFSS) Open Division crown. From her forward position, she registered an amazing 37 points for the season on 29 goals and eight assists. This included some big moments in the postseason.
Nguyen joins three other Eagle athletes to receive this prestigious award, with Girls Soccer's Lauren Bohaboy for the 2010-2011 season and former NWSL player, Amy Rodriguez, winning the National Player of the Year for her 2004-2005 season. The latest lady Eagle to receive the award was Girls Volleyball player, Devon Chang for 2017-2018.
Nguyen also garnered other prestigious individual awards including Player of the Year honors for the Trinity League, Orange County and CIF-SS.
Even after winning individual titles for herself, Ngyuen says she is most proud of her team winning CIF, “We worked so hard to get there and were able to perform at our very best,” she added.
Frequently called upon to represent the U.S. Youth National Team (USYNT), Nguyen has gained international experience, including scoring goals in friendlies versus Germany and the Netherlands. She plays elite club soccer for the San Diego Surf ECNL 09 team that has also enjoyed a league championship.
“I felt that this year was important to do well and set an example to the underclassman that will be leading the team when I graduate,” Ngyuen said.
She carries that “lead by example” mentality off of the field throughout her academic and everyday life.
Committed to play collegiately at Texas A&M, Nguyen holds a weighted 3.9 GPA at SMCHS. Her volunteer activity schedule is packed with service to many organizations – SMCHS's Buddies Beyond Boundaries Club, a local food bank, a youth soccer coach and a multiple of other community service initiatives through her church
