Two IB students share what is means to be a communicator, one of 10 core attributes of the International Baccalaureate Program, designed to shape students into well-rounded, compassionate and globally minded individuals.
Being a communicator is about far more than speaking well. It shows up in the essay that makes a complex idea clear, in the group project where every voice is heard, and in the everyday conversations that build understanding across our community. This month, two members of the Class of 2027 described what being a communicator means to them.
For Arya Parag, connection is important:
Through IB, we learn that communication is more than just speaking. It is also about expressing ideas through writing, listening to different perspectives, and connecting with others.”
Alexandra Mergdjanova pointed to communication turning into teamwork.
“The IB Program has taught me to communicate and effectively collaborate with others, improving my ability to work better and share perspectives with my peers.”
Together, their reflections capture both sides of the attribute: communication begins with how clearly we express ourselves, and it pays off in how well we work with the people around us.
The IB Diploma Program combines academic rigor, research skills, global awareness and personal growth. SMCHS is proud to be an IB World School and celebrate three decades of providing students with an internationally minded, academically rigorous education rooted in our charism of Caritas Christi.
Each month, we will take a look at the various attributes of the IB Learner Profile.
