SMCHS Welcomes Grandparents and Special Friends to Campus

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, grandparents and special friends visited Santa Margarita Catholic High School for a beautiful Mass and breakfast. Over 300 grandparents, students and friends came to campus and enjoyed their student's company. Freshman Jackson Kemmerer's special friend, Kerry Hayes, was recognized for traveling the furthest visiting from Mebourne, Australia. Jim and Joan Synder, freshman Luke Shulga's grandparents, took the prize for the most grandchildren with 24. Following Mass and student-led tours, the Grandparents Club put on a brunch with a portion of proceeds going toward the recently established Grandparents Club Scholarship  to help support students in need of tuition assistance. Sue McKeehan, one of the founding Mothers Club presidents, and Meredith Moody, a parent and retired SMCHS teacher of 25 years, decided to create the Grandparents and Special Friends Club. They were excited to share this new club to create "no work, just friends; no dues, just fun" for all SMCHS grandparents and special friends.

Pat and Mary Sullivan are the 2019 Grandparents Club co-presidents. With currently 150 members in the club, they are excited for the growing number of people that attended Grandparents and Special Friends Day and new members who are eager to join the club.
