IB Full Diploma Students Participate in Worldwide Character Day

Dialing down the various stressors of high school life, full diploma IB students joined in a worldwide celebration of Character Day on Friday, September 27. A short film, “The Science of Character,” described the power of character strengths, followed by small group discussion on specific strengths, such as "Humility" or "Justice," exploring how a person or event had helped them grow in this strength or how they had helped others grow.

When asked, many of the students said the experience was inspiring, “because sometimes we get so focused on success or all the college stuff, that we don’t make time to look inside ourselves, to think about who we are and who we’re becoming.” Another student remarked, “I think that sometimes in school we get our priorities twisted-it helps to stop and get centered.” Students also spent time sharing a meal provided by the IB Booster Parents and relaxing with one another. One of the most profound statements revolved around people being there for each other, “Sometimes, presence is more than enough.”

Each month, IB will provide a lunch experience to help us all remember that IB’s mission is to foster engaged, compassionate, responsible, and thinking young people and adults who care for themselves, others, and our planet.
