SM Hosts 30th Annual SOCOMUN

Students from more than 20 high schools attended the annual South Orange County Model United Nations Conference (SOCOMUN). The conference is held annually on campus at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. It returned to an in-person format after last year's virtual SOCOMUN. Darius Mahjoob ’23 and Celine Bacily ‘23 organized the event attended by over 1,000 students.

SOCOMUN is a chance for high school students to learn about the MUN  program, which simulates the workings of the United Nations. As the 76th session of the real United Nation's General Assembly recently convened in New York, so did student delegates at SMCHS.

High school students served as delegates discussing global issues such as no poverty, zero hunger and gender equality. The committee topics mirrored the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030 implemented by the real United Nations.
