The SMCHS championship varsity song team was recently featured on ESPN for their impressive small pom performance at the Universal Dance Association National Dance Team Championship held in January. Varsity Song Senior Captain Grace Caspino ‘20, who was interviewed by ESPN said, “We left everything on the stage and walked off feeling so proud of our performance. We were blessed to have placed fourth out of 86 other teams. It was such an amazing and unforgettable weekend for the SM song program!”
The team beat out all other California and West Coast teams, winning fourth in the nation out of 87 teams.
The UDA National Dance Team Championship is the most prestigious dance competition and varsity brand in the country. During the three day national competition, dance teams from all 50 states competed with a total of 6,000 competitors. The competition began with preliminary and semi-final elimination rounds and concluded with the final round. It all took place at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.
