Successful Sarah DeMille 5K
The Sarah DeMille ‘05 Memorial 5K Run happened virtually this year. While annual traditions of gathering to run and enjoy pancakes together were missed, Sarah was honored in a new way this year. Through virtual participation, 85 runners from California to Massachusetts, completed their race on their own submitting pictures from their run or fitness tracker.
Through their participation, we were able to continue this meaningful event and raise over $5,000 for the scholarship established in her name. “We are truly grateful to those who sponsored or donated to this event and for every runner who laced up to put in their miles in honor of Sarah,” said Katie McCurdy ‘02, Director of Advancement Operations and Special Events.
This marked the 12th year of the DeMille 5K which gives the school and community the opportunity to honor the memory of Sarah Ashley DeMille, a 2005 graduate of Santa Margarita Catholic High School and four-year cross country and track athlete who had a deep love for her sport and her teammates. The recipients of the Sarah DeMille ’05 Memorial Scholarship, which has awarded over $46,000 in scholarship funds, are chosen based on the values and attributes that Sarah possessed - passion, commitment, sacrifice, and hard work.
"Thank you to everyone who makes this race so special year after year," said McCurdy. SMCHS will continue to honor the memory of Sarah in this time-honored tradition for many years to come.
