Chinese Printmaking Workshop

The family of one of our students, XinXin (Cathy) Zhang '21, has donated several Chinese prints to Santa Margarita Catholic High School. These bright and colorful pieces were done by a Chinese artist in Cathy’s home country. The prints were generously donated to help promote cultural understanding and appreciation, while allowing the opportunity to interact closely with this form of art. The printing process has several steps to it, where the image is first carved onto a printing surface. Each area of the print is printed separately according to the color. Special ink and paper are used for this process. Cathy hosted a workshop for students to explore this traditional Chinese printmaking process dating back to 1368-1398 AD. Some of these prints are currently hanging in the school's Borchard Library for all to enjoy.
