SMCHS Student Artists Among the John Wayne Airport Contest Winners


Talented SM art students from Mr. Rudy Gardea’s advanced drawing class received well-deserved recognition at the 29th Annual John Wayne Airport Student Art Show. The show’s theme is “My Dream to Fly.”  Of the eight SM students that entered the contest, the following five students were among the winners selected to have their work displayed at the airport:

           Katie Gasper ’21     (Grand Prize Winner) who will go on to compete in the state competition!)
           Dmitriy Major ’19     (2nd Place)
           Mason Plum ’19      (3rd Place)
           Isabella Reyes ’20   (Honorable Mention)
           Kendall Saeger ’21   (Honorable Mention)

These winners were also recognized at an awards ceremony on Sunday, December 9, and their winning entries will be on display at the John Wayne Airport from December 5  through January 7, 2019 in the lower level (Arrivals) of the Thomas F. Riley Terminal. 

Katie Gasper was the grand prize winner and will go on to compete at the state competition known as The Aviation Art Contest. Following the state competition, the winners will have another opportunity to continue at the International contest in Lucerne, Switzerland.
