2024-2025 Talon Theatre Season

Finding Resilience - Seeking Compassion

The 2024-2025 Season was handpicked for you. It is a season for the students. I am very excited about the opportunities this season holds for you. Our 24-25 Talon Theatre Season theme is Finding Resilience – Seeking Compassion

This  Season, we will be focusing on stories that highlight resilient voices.. Given that 24-25 will be our  SMCHS year of compassion, I plan to also focus on how resilience lends to how we show compassion for not only others, but also for ourselves. The season will provide a platform fun and also thought-provoking conversations that remind us of how compassion for oneself goes hand in hand with resilience in the face of adversity and challenge. Each of my selections in this season will teach of this message in different ways. Each voice, each story, each relationship discovers resilience in result of compassion. The season also provides different styles and genres to continue the growth of our students from multiple theatrical lenses. I am very excited about how this season will continue to grow our students learning as artists and young adults. This season will also look quite different from the typical talon theatre structure. With more opportunities, different performance styles, and use of theatrical space. The season will begin with a realism play that will be produced in the Talon Dome. The play will be entirely student designed. Your fall play takes place in Massachusetts during the Civil War. Our play is based on a famous and highly popular novel by Louisa May Alcott. The story leads us along the transition of four sisters into womanhood as they all have to learn resilience in the face of adversity. Sisters Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy go on a journey of sisterhood together and discover the importance of family and the undeniable bond of sisterhood. You guessed it... Your Fall Play is Little Women.

Following Little Women, we are adding a new production to the Fall Semester. The next production in the season will be a fully realized Musical in Concert produced in the dome and accompanied by the instrumental musical department. For the first time we will be doing a cross-over concert between orchestra and theatre. The musical we have picked is quite the classic tale. It is the perfect mix of classical orchestration by Rogers and Hammerstein and contemporary storytelling. The musical follows the journey of a young girl who is tormented by her stepsisters. Then all of a sudden, a young prince makes an appearance and begins to ask “does the shoe fit?” Your Fall Musical in Concert is --- Roger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

In the Spring we will begin with a new story… something very spunky, groovy, and full of color. Your Spring Musical is based on a 1980s hit movie. I am very excited about this musical comedy that is set in the 70s. Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. . This musical will be a lot of work… I may need to start making you all work 9 to 5s. Your Spring Musical is the hit sensation 9 to 5.

The last piece of your season is something quite different and will be taking place in the Black Box. I am very excited for this new element that will allow for new opportunities for our students. The Final piece will not just be one, but two student-directed one act plays. Both small scale productions will be fully designed, performed, and directed by you… the students.
