Santa Margarita’s Campus Ministry Department is dedicated to the faith development of all students helping them to live out the school’s charism of Caritas Christi, the love of Christ, in their daily lives.
As students journey through their four years at Santa Margarita, the Campus Ministry Department seeks to help foster each student’s personal and spiritual growth. Working alongside students, Campus Ministry provides students with numerous faith-filled opportunities to help build and strengthen their relationship with God and one another. School Masses, retreats, service learning, worship nights and more give student the chance to be a part of Christ’s love in action.
Through a partnership with the Disciples of Mary, Santa Margarita is blessed to have a full-time campus chaplain on staff. The school is also home to The Sacred Heart Chapel, which provides the Santa Margarita community with a sacred space to spend time with the Lord.

We invite you to participate in one of the most powerful prayers, “Eucharistic Adoration,” in the tradition of the Catholic Church held every Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Chapel. Do you have challenges, worries, concerns, sorrows, and loneliness? Come sit quietly before the presence of our precious Jesus placed in the center of the Monstrance and let Him help you with all your concerns.
In the spirit of Jesus and His message, Campus Ministry, in conjunction with the Religion Department, offers an alternative class for senior religion called Peer Ministry. The first semester of the class emphasizes Christian leadership while the second half focuses on world spirituality. The class trains students to be peer ministers with students planning all-school masses, school prayer services, retreats for all grade levels, praise and worship activities, Christian service projects and most importantly, students are encouraged to create new ministry opportunities for the SMCHS community. Students must be willing to attend meetings and events after school, before school and/or on the weekends. The Peer Ministry class equips students with the ability to be leaders in their church, local community as well as in college. In a broader sense, they go out knowing what it means to be a servant leader.
Students apply for this class the spring of their junior year.
For further information please contact Director of Campus Ministry Mr. Patrick Visconti at firstname.lastname@example.org
Word and Worship events are led by Santa Margarita students for Santa Margarita students. Held during lunch in the Sacred Heart Chapel, these events give students a chance to take a break and pause for a moment during their school day to refocus and recenter on Jesus Christ. Student testimonies provide students a chance to recognize their own life story in their relationship with God.
2018-2019 Word & Worship Lunches
The senior pilgrimage, an SM tradition, started in 2000. Each year on Holy Thursday, seniors walk from Santa Margarita Catholic High School to the San Juan Capistrano Basilica. Every step of this 13.7 mile is sacred as it is lifted to God in the name of a person or cause in need of prayers. The pilgrimage concludes with lunch and a prayer service. This year's pilgrimage is on April 18, 2019
Santa Margarita’s Campus Ministry team is trained to provide pastoral care to students including grief support. If you are grieving due to the loss of a friend or loved one, we invite you to join a special grief group to find care from others who are struggling too. For more information, please contact Patrick Visconti at email@example.com or at 949-766-6000 ext. 1513.
Moms in Prayer is an interdenominational ministry of moms who believe prayer makes a difference in the lives of their children and school. The Santa Margarita Moms in Prayer group meets every Thursday in the Sacred Heart Chapel from 9 - 10 a.m.
Please know that you are welcome to join us at any time whenever your schedule allows. Being able to pray for our children is an amazing experience and a vital part of parenting.
You can submit prayer requests below or in the Campus Ministry Office.
