3-D Sculpture and Design is an introductory class in which basic building techniques and materials will be taught in the production of 3-dimensional sculpture. In addition to basic sculpture techniques, the elements of 3-dimensional design will be learned as they apply to the projects at hand. This class will approach sculpture and design from a fine arts perspective; therefore, aesthetics and design will be addressed, as well as skill and craftsmanship. Students will learn the process of art-making with keeping an ongoing sketchbook, in which will be preliminary drawings for design, evaluation and reflections on their own work. It is expected that students will read, write, and speak about design and sculpture. Art history/research projects will be completed by each student and submitted in written form.

ADVANCED 3D SCULPTURE AND DESIGN

Advanced 3-D Sculpture and Design is a course that offers upper level skill development, as students incorporate knowledge from their first year of 3-D Sculpture and Design. Skills that are emphasized in Advanced 3-D Sculpture are increased hand building skill and craft in multiple mediums, slip casting, advanced paint and glaze application and a further understanding and emphasis on the Principles of Design as they relate to 3- dimensional sculpture and the student’s own developing artistic styles. Projects present additional challenges and thinking in craft, design and color at an advanced level. This class will approach sculpture and design from a fine arts perspective; therefore, aesthetics and design will be addressed, as well as skill and craftsmanship. Students will learn the process of art-making with the keeping of an ongoing sketchbook, in which will be; preliminary drawings for design, evaluation, and reflections on their own work. It is expected that students will read, write, and speak about design and sculpture at an advanced level, building on prerequisite class learning. Art history/research projects will be completed by each student and submitted in written form, in addition to 3-dimensional works.

Prerequisite: Completion of 3-D Sculpture and Design and teacher recommendation.
